Daredevilish Drywallers!

Drywall hangers started working Friday morning.. and were done sometime later on the same day.. An entire house drywalled in a single day.. and we thought the Amish were fast. Also the garage door was installed 4 days ago hours before we had 3 continuous days of torrential downpour. Our closing date is at least 1 week later now. Ticker thingy on the right has been updated.

Update: We found an extra large piece of R30 insulation on the basement floor. The only place R30 is used is the garage ceiling under the bonus bedroom, and we had seen that piece had fallen out earlier in the week before the garage door was in.. So I'm pretty sure the drywallers did not put it back in.. it.must.go.back!

Not many pictures today as most were taken with a real camera, but these below are from the phone. Certainly no external shots as we ran out of bricks and I'm saving the external shots to post together when the front is done!

  1. Your family room looks HUGE! You were smart to do the bumpout... wish we had now. I see you did the bonus room above the garage... that is awesome!! What are you going to use it for? Will you have a finished basement? We decided against the bonus room since we are finishing the basement and already have 2 rooms that we will have to furnish and figure out what we are going to do with (bedroom and living room). Looks great!

    1. Thank you thank you, we really love the family room. We are a family big enough to use every single bedroom and have parents and relatives who visit frequently and stay for long periods of time. That's why we got the family room extension since we practically live in that room and need the extra space.

As for the bonus bedroom we started with a home-of-the-month offer that included a finished basement, but we traded that for a bonus bedroom since it is possible to finish a basement afterwards for cheaper than Ryan charges. But it is practically impossible to do a bonus room afterwards. Part of it was negotiation, we traded a 12k basement for a 15k bonus bedroom including full bath without paying extra. But it was mostly a need to create a private living space for our parents or in laws when they visit. We really like how the bonus bedroom makes the house look from outside too by raising the roof line over the garage by at least 5 feet.

  2. It's so bright inside your home! Good thing you knowwhere the R30 batt belongs, otherwise I'm sure no one would have given it another thought. Can't wait to see the brick exterior!

  4. I love the loft space in the Victoria Falls! You have so much natural light--it's looking fantastic!

    1. We really like the Loft very much. Too bad we had to lose the biggest walk in closet to get it, but now the window is open to the rest of the house allowing more light in, instead of being trapped in a closet.

  5. Looking good!!
It makes me nervous that they pushed your date back! We haven't gotten word that ours is pushed back yet and we are only a couple of days ahead of you in the process!!

    1. Well, we just got a letter confirming that our closing will be on the date we got pushed to (8/20).. Perhaps one should trust in this little paper. For sure this little paper can stop disasters from happening and ensure smooth sailing to the end!

You are at least a full week ahead of us. We are not worried about missing the date 9except for school starting for the kids, and having to pay more rent). What's a couple weeks more to get the job done right. We were thinking of refusing to sign if all issues are not fixed.

  7. Wow! nice selections and good progress Ella, this is my opportunity to actually see the layout of the bonus room as all the models I've been to did not have one. We are also building a Victoria Falls in York, PA with your same elevation with the bonus room also. I was wondering if the loft replaces the master bedroom closet because that window actually stems from the in floor plans without the bonus room. Http//jesunju.blogspot.com

    1. We posted the loft and bonus bedroom pictures mostly because you asked for it :) Yes, you lose the largest walk-in closet but get the loft, and get more direct light through the window which is great.

We are also following your progress now. Thank you for sharing the pictures of the model home. We've never seen a Victoria Falls elevation D model before and the pictures give lots and lots of ideas!
